Abstract

Carrying out the acoustic design of a space with a concave ceiling is a challenge. Imagine to perform the acoustic design for the Jazz Bar, located at the Rosewood Hotel São Paulo - six-star hotel -, which has a concave ceiling designed by Philippe Starck and painted by the artist Cabelo. It took more than 5 years to develop the project, with several modifications to allow solutions between aesthetics, painting and acoustics be compatible. In addition to guaranteeing a good acoustic performance, the solution must be viable for application in curves, due to the shape of the ceiling, and allow the painting foreseen in the project as an important milestone for the space. The objective of this article is to compare the values of reverberation time (T20) between measurements in loco, and simulations in the EASE AURA 4.4 software before and after the application of the acoustic solution. In addition, it will be shared in a practical way the challenges of this project. The results show that the measured and simulated (T20) are approximately 2 seconds at 1000 Hz without applying the acoustic solutions. After performing the interventions, the reberveration time reduced to approximately 1 second at the same frequency. The largest variation between measured and simulated values is 0.42 seconds at 800 Hz, with application of the acoustic solution. This result represents the coherence between simulation and execution of the acoustic solution. Jazz Bar opened on December 15, 2021 and since then, customers have been satisfied with the acoustic performance.
