Abstract

Airflow resistivity is one of the most important macroscopic parameters in the characterization of absorption materials. In this work, the experimental method proposed by Dragonetti, Ianniello, and Romano and the method standardized by ISO 9053-2:2020 is discussed. The first has limitations regarding the useful frequency range and the limits for obtaining resistivity. While the second proposes measurements using an alternating flow at a frequency of 2 Hz, which may contain errors due to the low sensitivity of the transducers (microphones and accelerometers). Thus, one of the objectives of this work is to map the aforementioned errors in obtaining the flow resistivity in relation to the choice of material thickness using numerical modeling with a frequency of 25 Hz. The aforementioned experimental methods were computationally simulated by the Finite Element Method (FEM). The mapping of the errors of both methods allows identifying which one is more suitable to carry out the measurement of flow resistivity according to different types of materials (porous or perforated), observing the limitations of thickness and flow resistivity of each method. Experimental benches were built by the authors to evaluate the two methods, observing the regions of greater reliability previously simulated. Two different types of materials (Material A and Material B) were measured with the two benches and statistical analysis of the data was performed to evaluate the variations among specimens and also the influence of the material assembly in the tubes. The benches performed reasonable data stability. Material A (melamine) have shown an average resistivity of 10,94 kNs/m4 for the standardized method and 11,12 kNs/m4 for Dragonetti's method, which corroborates, with literature data.
