Abstract

Part 3 of ISO 16283 describes the procedure for determining the sound insulation of a facade. The procedure applies to rooms with volumes between 10 m3 and 250 m3 in the frequency range between 50 and 5000 Hz. For a receiving room volume greater than 25 m3, it is not mandatory to use the low frequency procedure for the 50, 63 Hz and 80 Hz octave bands. It is sufficient that the sound source was able to generate a sufficient level at 50 Hz and above. In this work, in situ and laboratory measurements have been carried out in enclosures with a volume greater than 25 m3 using and not using the low frequency procedure to answer the question of whether, although it is not mandatory, it is convenient to calculate the sound pressure level taking into account the maximum sound pressure value measured at the corners of the enclosure. The results obtained, in situ and in the laboratory, suggest that the low frequency (corner) method for L1 obtains a considerable reduction of the low frequency sound insulation when compared to the default procedure.
